The 89-year-old, who hailed from Kishoreganj's Karimganj, was awarded the death penalty along with three others by the International Crimes Tribunal in May this year. Another suspect in the case received a life sentence.
Karimganj police OC Zakir Rabbani told bdnews24.com, "His family confirmed that Mannan died at Naryanganj's Kachpur. We are trying to gather details."
Born in 1927 at Karimganj’s Charparha, Mannan became a Razakar commander during the war.
The International Crimes Tribunal gave Mannan a death sentence for his involvement in the murder of 8 people in Karimganh’s Bidyanagar.
He also received a life sentence for the kidnapping, torture and murder of Md Fazrul Rahman Master of Atkaparha village and Abu Bakr Siddique and ‘Rupali’ of East Nabaida’s Kalimpur village.
In addition, Mannan received a five-year prison sentence for setting fire to 20-25 houses in Atkaparha.
Of Mannan’s fellow convicts, only death row inmate Shamsuddin Ahmed is currently in custody.
Law enforcement has no leads as to the whereabouts of former army captain Nasiruddin Ahmed, Hafiz Uddin and Ajharul Islam.
