The low-pressure system in the western-central Bay of Bengal has advanced north-northwest and intensified into a depression, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The depression could further intensify into a deep depression, bringing gusty or stormy winds to coastal areas.

The department issued a special bulletin on Wednesday afternoon, warning the Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra sea ports to display cautionary signal No. 3.

As of 3pm Wednesday, the depression was located 915km southwest of Chattogram, 865km southwest of Cox's Bazar, 800km southwest of Mongla, and 795km southwest of Payra.

“The depression is moving further north-northwest and may intensify into a deep depression. Its influence is causing significant atmospheric pressure variation in the north Bay of Bengal. Gusty or stormy winds could affect coastal areas and sea ports in this region," the bulletin said.
