Barrister Omar Sadat, a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court, has been re-elected as the president of Gulshan Society, a welfare and civic organisation for the residents of Dhaka’s Gulshan area, for the next two years while Mujibur Rahman Mridha has been elected its secretary general.
The full panel of the Sadat-led “Bhalobasar Gulshan” has been elected unopposed in the Gulshan Society election held on Tuesday.
Sadat has also been working as an urban rights activist for a long time while Mridha is a renowned businessman by profession, a Gulshan Society press release said on Thursday.
The election of the 12th Executive Committee of Gulshan Society was conducted without incident under the overall supervision of Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Alam.

Freedom fighters captain (retired) Abdul Majed Mia and Eva Rahman have been elected as vice-presidents, Ali Ashfaq as treasurer, Khadem Md Rayyan Sadid and Joya Kabir as joint secretary generals, Mahfuzul Azam Romel as joint-treasurer and Faizur Rahman Khan, Aminul Islam Chowdhury, Regina Nasir, Farzana Chowdhury and Iftekhar Rahman as executive members of the committee.
In addition, Imtiaz Mohammad Mohsin, Barrister Kamrun Nahar Mahmud, Morshedul Alam Chakladar, Pulak Poddar and Dr Zafrul Islam have been elected as zone chairmen.
Gulshan residents have congratulated all the members of the newly elected committee.
It is hoped that the leaders of the newly elected committee will open new horizons for the development of the area, the press release added.
