BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said an interim government will be formed promptly after the dissolution of Parliament, with a general election to be held within three months.
He made these remarks following a meeting with President Mohammed Sahabuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban on Monday evening.
Fakhrul said Chairperson Khaleda Zia would be released “without any delay” and the interim government would ensure free, fair, and impartiality organised elections within the specified timeframe.
He also said the president would address the nation, outlining the dissolution of Parliament and the formation of the interim government.
The meeting occurred shortly after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country, ending her 16-year rule.
