Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has received a warm welcome upon arriving in Beijing for a three-day state visit to China.

After attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) Summer Davos meeting in Dalian, Tarique and his wife Zubaida Rahman travelled to Beijing by high-speed train on Wednesday.

The Bangladeshi premier was received at Beijing’s Chaoyang Railway Station by Chinese Customs Minister Sun Meijun.

A red carpet reception was arranged at the station for Tarique, while a ceremonial contingent presented a static guard of honour.

Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman said the premier will stay at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse during the visit.

The official programme of the state visit will begin on Thursday morning.

On Thursday afternoon, Chinese premier Li Qiang will formally welcome Tarique at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The two leaders will then hold bilateral talks leading delegations from their respective countries.

On Friday, Tarique is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Senior leaders of the Chinese Communist Party are also expected to meet him.

After completing his first foreign visit to Malaysia on Sunday and Monday, Tarique arrived in Dalian, in northeastern China, on Monday.

On Tuesday morning, he held a courtesy meeting with World Economic Forum President and Chief Executive Officer Børge Brende's successor Alois Zwinggi.

Later that evening, he addressed a WEF session titled “Climate Leadership in a Shifting Global Landscape”.

The prime minister also attended a banquet hosted by Li Qiang for heads of government participating in the Summer Davos forum.

On Wednesday morning, Tarique joined the plenary session of the WEF’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions before departing for Beijing in the afternoon.

The Bangladeshi prime minister is visiting China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li.
