The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 3,000kg of Indian cumin in an operation in Brahmanbaria’s Bijoynagar Upazila.
Members of BGB-25 Battalion intercepted a truck loaded with the smuggled spices in the Islampur area on Tuesday, according to Lt Col Jabbar Ahmed, the unit's commander.
The truck used to transport the consignment across the border was also seized.
In a statement, the BGB official said the cumin was being taken to Dhaka.
The combined value of the seized spices and the truck is estimated at Tk 9.8 million.
He added that the process of handing over the consignment to Akhaura Customs is under way, and that such drives will continue to curb smuggling.
