Battery-operated three-wheeled vehicles will be declared illegal if they enter highways, Highway Police Additional Inspector General (AIG) Delwar Hossain Mia has warned.
During an Eid travel inspection on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Gazipur on Wednesday afternoon, he said: “Three-wheelers operating on highways will be strictly regulated.
“They may run on feeder roads, but once on the highway, they will be considered illegal.”
The AIG said, “More than 4,000 police personnel, 820 patrol teams, and over 300 checkpoints will be set up to maintain order on the highways.
“Motorcycle patrols, drone surveillance, and watch towers will also be used for monitoring,” he added.
He also advised against travelling on open trucks or bus roofs.
Later, the officer inspected the highway's security arrangements and spoke with passengers and drivers.
