Khulna University has formed a five-member investigation committee to look into allegations that some of its teachers were involved in a secret effort to bring back ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina from India.
The university issued an office order signed by acting Registrar Prof SM Mahbubur Rahman on Monday, directing the panel to complete its investigation and submit a detailed report within a month.
The order said reports from media outlets and sources had claimed that 404 teachers from 22 public universities were involved in a secret initiative to bring Hasina back to Bangladesh.
The committee has been formed to determine if any Khulna University teachers were involved in such an effort.
The dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology will head the committee, while the director of student affairs will serve as member secretary.
The other members are the deans of the School of Education, School of Law and School of Social Sciences.
The panel has been given one month to complete the probe and submit a detailed report.
The allegations include links to the activities of the banned Awami League, involvement in a secret effort to bring Hasina back and taking up positions against students during the 2024 July Uprising.
Attempts to contact Prof Mahbubur were unsuccessful.
Prof Md Salauddin, committee’s member secretary and director of Student Affairs, however, said he had received the letter and the committee had yet to hold a meeting.
He said its chairman would call the meeting and the panel would sit soon.
Earlier, Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Jagannath University, Islamic University, and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology formed similar committees to investigate allegations of this nature.
