Two people have been killed on the road in front of Bangabhaban in Dhaka after a truck rammed into a poultry van.

The dead have been identified as Shantinagar poultry traders Ripon, 45, and Sultan, 40.

They were on their way to Shantinagar from Kaptan Bazar early Tuesday morning when the accident occurred, seriously injuring them.

The victims were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared the two of them dead, according to Inspector Md Faruk of the DMCH Police Outpost.

Both of them hailed from Sherpur, but were living in the Shantinagar area.

Md Shaheen, one of the men who took the victims to the hospital, said a speeding truck rammed into the back of the van as it was making a U-turn on the road in front of the Bangabhaban. Both Ripon and Sultan were then thrown from the vehicle and seriously injured.

Md Kamruzzaman Talukder, chief of Motijheel Police Station, said: “The truck hit them and fled. We have not been able to identify it yet.”
