Police have recovered the body of a nurse from a flat in the Hossaini Dalan area of Old Dhaka's Chawkbazar.
The woman, Nahida Akter Bobby, 29, worked at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, police said. She left behind a note seeking justice against her husband and members of her in-laws’ family.
Chawkbazar Police Station chief (OC) Md Abdullah Al Mamun said officers recovered the body on Thursday night.
“The body was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf tied around the neck,” he said.
Nahida lived in the rented flat with her husband Elias, while her family home is in the Railway Colony area of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.
Citing neighbours, police said the couple had an argument around iftar on Thursday, after which Elias left the house.
When he returned later at night, he found the door locked from inside and received no response despite calling out.
“At one stage, he broke open the door and found his wife hanging from the fan,” OC Mamun said.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 2am for post-mortem examination.
OC Mamun said the nurse had written a note before her death asking for justice against her husband Elias and members of her in-laws’ family.
Police are preparing to file a case accusing Elias as the main suspect in abetment of suicide, the officer said, adding that further legal steps will follow.
