Three people have been killed after a car overturned on the Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj.
Another person was injured in the crash that happened around 6am on Thursday near the Shologhar passenger shed in Sreenagar Upazila, according to Hazara Highway Police Station chief Abdul Kader Jilani.
The dead, including two men and a woman, have not yet been identified.
Police said the Dhaka-bound car was travelling at high speed when the driver lost control and hit a road divider, causing it to flip over.
Shafiqul Islam, a deputy assistant director of the Munshiganj Fire Service, said a loud bang was heard before the vehicle overturned and skidded off the road.
“There were four people inside. Two died on the spot. The other two were taken to hospital, where one more was declared dead,” he added.
Rescuers described finding debris scattered across the road, with two bloodied bodies lying beside it.
“We could hear the groans of one injured passenger,” said Dewan Azad Hossain, station officer of Sreenagar Fire Service.
Traffic along the expressway was halted following the accident but resumed after the wreckage was cleared about an hour later, police said.
