A mugger chase in Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar has left a police sub-inspector and a constable injured, with two suspects detained.
The injured are Sub-Inspector Samsuzzoha Sarkar of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station and Constable Md Hridoy Hossain attached to the Public Order Management (POM) unit.
Both suffered stab wounds to their left shoulders.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Momin said three muggers were fleeing in a battery-run rickshaw past the glass bridge near Zia Udyan around 1am on Friday when the two police personnel, on motorcycle patrol, gave chase.
"Hearing people shouting, the two chased the rickshaw on their bike," officer Momin said. "At one point the suspects knifed them -- but they still managed to pin down two of the three."
Other officers arrived to find the two badly hurt. They were rushed first to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, then transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 2:30am.
By morning, both had been moved to Dhaka Central Police Hospital, where they are now out of danger, Momin said.
The identities of the two detainees were not immediately available.
