Chittagong, Nov 3 (bdnews24.com)—Eight illegal police boxes in Chittagong have been bulldozed in a drive by the city corporation (CCC).
CCC magistrate Sheikh Saleh Ahmed led the three-hour drive which started at 2pm on Wednesday.
He told bdnews24.com the eight police boxes were demolished in the drive following a request from Chittagong Metropolitan Police commissioner Mohammad Abul Kashem to demolish 18 illegal police boxes in the port city.
He said CCC demolished one police box at Bahaddarhat Square, one at Sholoshohor gate-2, two at GEC Square, one beside Bangladesh Women Association School, two at WASA Square and one at Kazir Deuri.
The magistrate said the other 10 police boxes will be demolished next week.
According to Ahmed, private advertising firms Momi Ad constructed 11 police boxes, Nabi Enterprise constructed four and Homestone constructed three police boxes, used mainly to display advertisements of different businesses.
On Tuesday, Chittagong Outdoor Advertising Owners' Association leaders assaulted six officials of CCC protesting demolition of illegal billboards.
