Autorickshaw driver killed in Cumilla, vehicle stolen

Injuries from sharp weapons were apparent on the neck of the deceased, police say

Police have recovered of an autorickshaw driver with his throat slit from a cornfield in Cumilla's Homna Upazila.

The body was found next to the Karakandi-Baherkhela road on Friday morning, said Morshedul Alam Chowdhury, chief (OC) of Homna Police Station.

The dead man, Shanto Das, was the son of Arun Chandra Das, a member of the Village Police force.

"My son Shanto drove an autorickshaw. We were not able to communicate with him after Thursay evening. In the morning, we learnt that his body was found in a cornfield," said Arun.

"We have heard that his autorickshaw has yet to be found. I think they killed my son to steal his autorickshaw."

OC Morshedul said Shanto's neck bore stab wounds, adding: "We suspect he was killed in order to steal his autorickshaw."

The body has been brought to Homna Police Station, Morshedul said. It will be sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. A case is being prepared over the incident.
