A schoolteacher and a child have been killed in two separate road accidents in Chattogram’s Mirsharai and Hathazari.

The victims were identified as Meera Rani Bhowmik, 55, a teacher at Khaiyachhara High School in Mirsharai, and 4-year-old Bibi Khadija.

The accident in Mirsharai occurred at Barotakiya Mazar Gate on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway around 3:30pm on Tuesday, said Abdullah Al Mamun, chief of Jorarganj Highway Police Station.

Meera was waiting for transport at a stoppage when a pickup truck hit her, killing her on the spot.

Two pedestrians injured in the incident have been admitted to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, in Burischar of Hathazari, a speeding autorickshaw knocked down Khadija near her home.

“She was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead,” said Alauddin Talukder, assistant sub-inspector at the hospital’s police outpost.
