A Dhaka court has sent the three suspects arrested in connection with a case over the death of a teacher in a snatching incident near parliament to jail after their remand periods ended.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ripon Hossain issued the order on Saturday after a petition from the case investigating officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiqul Islam of the Prosecution Department said.
The accused sent to jail are Poni alias Para Poni alias Poni Gazi, Cedric Julian, and Rakib Hossain.
Investigating officer SI Shahin of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police presented the suspects in court and requested for them to be detained in jail after they were questioned in police custody for five days.
No bail application was filed on behalf of the accused.
The court then ordered them to be sent to jail.
On the morning of Aug 29, Ranjila Parvin, the headmistress of Bagbari Girls Government Primary School in Bogura’s Gabtali Upazila, was killed on Manik Mia Avenue when two robbers on a motorcycle attempted to snatch her purse and dragged her onto the road.
She hit her head and suffered a critical head injury. When she was taken to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared her dead.
Ranjila had come to Dhaka with her husband Abdul Matin for medical treatment. In the morning, she got off at the Gabtali bus terminal and was on her way to the hospital by rickshaw when the incident occurred.
Her husband Abdul filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on Sunday over the incident. RAB-2 conducted an operation that day and arrested the suspects.
According to RAB, a motorcycle used in the robbery has been seized. However, questions have been raised about the proper identification of the vehicle and the suspects.
A Dhaka court had remanded them to police custody on Monday for interrogation. Following the remand period, the suspects have now been sent to jail.
