As the United States prepares to mark its 250th founding anniversary, 50 rickshaws in Dhaka have been coloured red, white and blue to resemble the US flag.
United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen paddled one of the rickshaws on Wednesday, on the eve of the anniversary.
The envoy was joined by Bangladeshi rickshaw-pullers when he paraded through a street.
The embassy posted several photos of the rickshaw parade on its verified Facebook page in the afternoon, saying: “To mark America's 250th anniversary, Ambassador Christensen launched 50 red, white, and blue rickshaws to honor American independence and highlight the strong US-Bangladesh partnership.”
On Jul 4, the US will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
“With a single sheet of parchment and 56 signatures, America began the greatest political journey in human history,” said President Donald Trump of the occasion.
The US government has planned different events and programmes around the world to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
