Rail traffic on the Dhaka-Chattogram corridor has begun returning to normal after authorities moved the stranded Sonar Bangla Express with a replacement engine.
Laksham Junction Station Master Omar Faruk said rail communication between the port city and the rest of the country was restored at 10pm on Wednesday, two and a half hours after the suspension of services.
The shutdown followed an engine failure on the Sonar Bangla Express and the derailment of four coaches of the Meghna Express train near Hasanpur Station around 7:30pm.
The Meghna Express has resumed its journey to Chandpur after the derailed coach was detached from the train, he said.
Once the derailed coach is removed from the scene, train services will resume on both lines, Faruk added.
The disruption left passengers stranded, causing severe inconvenience.
