Dhaka North City Corporation, or DNCC, Administrator Mohammad Azaz has directed officials to restore discipline on the road from Karwan Bazar level crossing to Saat Rasta in Dhaka's Tejgaon.

He issued the directives at a meeting with Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Traffic Division, truck drivers’ and owners’ associations at the Tejgaon truck stand on Saturday.

Azaz said: "A permanent solution must be made to ensure order on the roads in Tejgaon area. But at present, it must be ensured that the commuters do not suffer on the road from Tejgaon level crossing to Saat Rasta.

"Traffic on the road must be normal. We will work towards a permanent solution phase by phase."

He asked the Traffic Division officers to stop the parking of human haulers and tempos on both sides of the level crossing.

“Three wheelers known as a Laguna and tempo stands have been built on the busiest road like this on both sides of the level crossing. They can't stay here in any way."

At the meeting, representatives of the Truck and Covered Van Owners Association and the Truck and Covered Van Drivers' Union demanded the construction of a multi-storey truck terminal for a permanent solution tied to the parking issue of trucks, pick-ups, and covered vans.

They also proposed straightening the level crossing from Saat Rasta to Farmgate.
