A fire that broke out on the sixth floor of the new building at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), in the children’s ward, has been contained.

The Fire Service deployed nine units to contain the blaze within 30 minutes on Saturday.

No casualties have been reported in the incident that took place around 5pm, according to Senior Station Officer Sanowar Hossain.

MMCH Deputy Director Dr Zakiul Islam said, "The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Thanks to everyone's efforts, however, we have been saved from a major disaster.

“Patients and their relatives were safely evacuated through the emergency room area."

Officer Sanowar said the Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the report.

The exact cause of the blaze cannot be confirmed until a formal investigation has been conducted, he added.
