A Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal activist has been fatally stabbed near a traffic police box in Mymensingh.
Police said the incident occurred near the Patgudam Biji corner around 3:00pm on Wednesday.
Kotwali Police chief Muhammad Shibirul Islam said the man, identified as Redwan Jahan Riyad, 28, was the son of Md Saidul Haque Khan from Kalibari.
Shafiq Uddin, chief of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital police camp, said people brought the injured man to the hospital around 3:30pm, and he succumbed to his injuries at 5:30 pm.
Riyad was stabbed above the knee and died from profuse bleeding, he added.
His father Saidul said, “My son lay wounded for a long time inside the police box, but no one came to save him. We still do not know why or by whom he was killed.
“He was involved in politics with Jubo Dal leader Inchaan. We demand justice and that CCTV footage at the scene be used to catch the killers.”
Inchaan, joint general secretary of Mymensingh Jubo Dal, echoed Saidul’s demands.
Following an on-site inspection, officer Shibirul said preliminary findings suggest the stabbing resulted from a conflict within a local robbery gang.
Police are on the hunt for those involved in the murder.
