The body of a Bangladeshi man killed in a missile strike in Saudi Arabia has been brought home, 12 days after the attack amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.
The remains of Mosharraf Hossain arrived at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Saudia Airlines flight on Friday morning.
Mosharraf, son of Surjat Ali from Kirtankhola village in Tangail’s Sakhipur Upazila, had been living in Saudi Arabia for the past eight years.
He was one of two Bangladeshis killed when a projectile hit a residential area in Al-Kharj on Mar 8 during an Iranian retaliatory missile attack, according to officials.
Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam received the body at the airport.
Speaking to reporters there, Shama said five Bangladeshi nationals had so far been killed in the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The government is working to bring back the victims' bodies as quickly as possible, she added.
The state minister also said that Bangladesh was prepared to evacuate citizens wishing to return from Iran and other conflict-affected countries.
However, many Bangladeshis in the region were reluctant to leave their jobs despite the risks, according to her.
