Three people have been killed and two others injured after a covered van collided head-on with a CNG-run autorickshaw in Gazipur’s Kaliakair.

The crash occurred around 11:30am on Saturday in the Kanchanpur Chairman Bari area of the Kaliakair-Fulbaria-Mawna regional road, police said.

Two of the dead are believed to have been a mother and son, though their identities had not been confirmed immediately.

Police, citing witnesses, said the autorickshaw was carrying four passengers from Kaliakair towards Mawna Chourasta in Sreepur when it collided with the covered van coming from the opposite direction.

The impact badly damaged the autorickshaw and sent the covered van off the road.

Five people, including the autorickshaw driver, were injured and taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex.

Doctors declared two dead on arrival, while another person later died during treatment.

Kaliakair Police chief Shahidul Islam said authorities are working to identify the dead and injured.
