Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is closely following updates on the health of BNP veteran leader Mirza Abbas, who is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital.
AZM Zahid Hossain, the minister for social welfare and women and children affairs, said: “He (Mirza Abbas) has been kept under close observation by doctors in the Neuro ICU at the hospital. The prime minister is keeping a close eye on him and is being informed about his physical condition.”
“Everyone will pray for him. A medical board has already been formed with specialist doctors. The board includes senior neurologists from across the country. The board met a while ago. Preparations have also been made to take him abroad for advanced treatment. However, this will be decided by the board.”
Abbas, the prime minister’s political advisor and BNP National Standing Committee member, was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara after he fell ill and lost consciousness on Wednesday night.
Last night, Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Social Welfare Minister Zahid, and BNP National Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan visited the ailing Abbas in hospital. They spoke to the doctors of the medical board about his condition.
Zahid said that the medical board includes Prof Aliuzzaman, Prof Abdul Kader Shaikh, Prof Zillur Rahman, Prof Quazi Deen Mohammad, Professor Sayed Ahmed, and Prof Md Zafor Iqbal. Zahid joined them online for meetings.
He said, "Preparations have been made to take him (Abbas) out of the country to Singapore. Communication with neurologists at the National University Hospital in Singapore and all the admission work has been arranged. An air ambulance has also been arranged to take him to Singapore.
"But that depends on the decision of the medical board."
BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said that Abbas's wife and his family have sought prayers from his countrymen for his recovery.
