The High Court has directed authorities not to harass or arrest former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Salina Hayat Ivy in any new cases.

At the same time, the court asked why it should not declare as illegal the repeated showing of Ivy as arrested in successive cases.

The order came on Sunday from a bench of Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury after hearing a writ petition.

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities to explain their position over the legality of repeatedly showing her arrested in different cases.

During the hearing, the court also instructed that Ivy must not be harassed or shown arrested in any new case in the meantime.

Senior lawyers Sara Hossain and Motahar Hossain Saju appeared for Ivy in court.

According to the petition, Ivy has already secured bail in 10 cases but was later shown arrested in two new cases under “show arrest” provisions, prompting the legal challenge.

Her counsel said the High Court had also earlier granted bail in the existing cases, and the fresh “show arrest” orders were being challenged as unlawful.

Ivy has been named as a suspect in multiple cases linked to violence during the 2024 student movement period in Narayanganj.
