Two people have died after the motorcycle they were riding fell into a roadside ditch in Chapainawabganj’s Shibganj Upazila.
The accident occurred around 5:15am on Tuesday in the Muslimpur-Takshaldighi area, according to Shibganj Police Station Inspector Anisur Rahman.
The victims were identified as Md Abu Hayat, 35, and Md Habib, 20, both natives of Baliyadighi village in Shibganj Upazila.
Locals said the road had become risky as work on the construction of a culvert was under way. They believe this may have caused the accident.
“Abu Hayat and Habib were returning home on a motorcycle from Kansat Bazar. When they reached the culvert, the motorcycle veered out of control and fell into a ditch beside the road," Inspector Anisur said.
Locals rescued them and took them to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors on duty declared both dead, he added.
