Two workers have died after a fire broke out at a factory in Dhaka’s Badda early on Monday morning.

Lima Khanam, duty officer at the Fire Service Control Room, said the incident was reported at 3:10am and two units of firefighters were dispatched to the scene. They brought the blaze under control at 4:23am.

Afterwards, they recovered the bodies of Mahmudullah, 20, and Mostofa, 20 – both identified by single names. The dead had been workers at the factory.

Habibur Rahman, chief of Badda Police Station, said: “There was a chips factory at the site. When a short circuit sparked the fire, eight of the 10 workers were able to flee, but two were burnt and died.”
