Five event management workers, including a cameraman, have been shot while travelling to film a pre-wedding ceremony in Noakhali’s Begumganj.

The attack occurred around 11:30pm on Monday near Gazitola of Moushakpur village, according to Begumganj Police Station chief Mohammad Shamsuzzaman.

The injured were identified as Nazrul Islam Shanto, Maruf Ahmed, Jasim Uddin, Sakib Hossain and Bablu.

They were taken to the 250 Bed Noakhali General Hospital. One of them was later sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Shanto said the group, which included several women, had been travelling to film a Gaye Holud ceremony on three motorcycles and two CNG-run autorickshaws.

He added that the attackers opened fire from behind, targeting the motorcycles.

Five members of the group were hit by pellets and fell from their motorcycles onto the road, according to Shanto.

He said he recognised two local people among the attackers.

Shamsuzzaman said the group had been fired upon from behind, leaving five people injured.

Police suspect the shooting may have stemmed from a previous personal dispute.

Law enforcers have visited the scene and launched an investigation.

Further legal action will be taken based on the findings, Shamsuzzaman added.
