Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Md Ahsan Habib Palash has said that “effective measures” have been taken to prevent incidents such as the mugging of cattle traders during Eid-ul-Azha.
He also said that traders and buyers are being encouraged to avoid cash transactions at cattle markets and instead to make payments through “cashless methods or cards.”
Palash spoke to the media on Sunday after inspecting security arrangements at the Gabtoli Cattle Market in Dhaka.
The RAB chief said, “During the holy Eid-ul-Azha, public gatherings in the capital and other cities are comparatively lower. Therefore, RAB has taken effective measures to prevent incidents such as the snatching of money from cattle traders after the selling of animals.”
He added that the number of security checkpoints and patrols had been increased to address the situation.
Palash further said, “To reduce the suffering of buyers at cattle markets, control rooms and watchtowers have been set up. At the same time, people are being encouraged to avoid cash transactions and make payments through cashless methods or cards.”
He also said that surveillance is continuing to ensure that no one can force cattle-carrying vehicles to go to a specific market against their will. In addition, battalions are conducting robust patrols in their respective areas to ensure the safe transportation of sacrificial animals to markets, while checkpoints are being operating in vulnerable and important locations to maintain security.
The RAB chief also said that operations against counterfeit money producers are ongoing, and necessary equipment has been kept ready to detect and prevent fake money circulation.
“Additionally, immediate legal action will be taken against those spreading rumours or misleading posts on social media centring on Eid and Qurbani,” he said.
He added that RAB members are continuing regular patrols, intelligence surveillance, and operational activities to suppress violence and other criminal activities in order to maintain law and order across the country.
