The magnitude 5.6 quake was centred near the border with Myanmar

A moderate earthquake has hit India’s Manipur near the border with Myanmar. Tremors from the quake could be felt in Dhaka and many other parts of Bangladesh.
According to the United States Geological Survey, or USGS, the magnitude 5.6 quake on the Richter scale hit around 11:36am Bangladesh time on Wednesday.
The epicentre of the earthquake was 44 km east of Yairipok and 51 km east-northeast of Imphal at a depth of 10 km, the USGS said.
Golam Mostafa, operator of the Seismic Observatory and Research Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said the epicentre of the quake was 449 km northeast of Dhaka.
Many people in Dhaka called bdnews24.com to report the tremors. However, no information was available on the damage caused by the quake.
