Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has directed authorities to send Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur abroad for advanced medical treatment.

On Tuesday, Nur’s wife Maria Akter, along with Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan and Senior Joint General Secretary Hasan Al Mamun, met with the chief advisor at the State Guest House Jamuna.

The Chief Advisor’s Office (CAO) later issued a media statement confirming the decision.

According to the statement, Maria broke down in tears while describing her husband’s condition.

She said Nur had suffered a brain haemorrhage, a fractured nasal bone, and injuries to his jaw and spine.

She added that he needed to be taken abroad for proper treatment, according to CAO.

The chief advisor instructed the health ministry to arrange for Nur’s transfer abroad.

“We are all shocked by this incident. We have taken every step to ensure his proper treatment. A judicial inquiry is under way,” Yunus said.

Law Advisor Asif Nazrul said a one-member committee, headed by Justice Ali Reza, is being formed to investigate the attack.

The gazette notification is expected to be issued by Wednesday, with the committee tasked to submit its findings within 15 days.
