Bangladesh has imported nearly 61,000 tonnes of wheat from the United States in a third consignment

under the direct government-to-government purchase arrangement.

A ship carrying 60,875 tonnes of wheat arrived at the Mongla Port outer anchorage on Saturday,

according to an official statement.

The shipment has arrived under a cash purchase agreement based on the memorandum of

understanding (MoU) signed between the countries.

Under this MoU, Bangladesh is set to import a total of 440,000 tonnes of wheat.

The first shipment of 56,959 tonnes arrived on Oct 25, while the second shipment of 60,802 tonnes

reached the country on Nov 3.

Total wheat imports for Bangladesh reach 178,636 tonnes with the latest consignment.

The statement said sample testing of the wheat has already begun, and the unloading process will

commence shortly after.
