Bangladeshi expatriates who have smart national identity cards (NIDs) will be able to vote in the upcoming parliamentary election using a postal ballot.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said an app called “Postal Ballot “BD is being developed for this purpose.

A government press release issued on Thursday stated that the CEC made the comments at an event in Canada’s Toronto, hosted by the Consulate General of Bangladesh.

During the event, Nasir inaugurated the smart card distribution programme abroad.

He also encouraged expatriates to vote in the upcoming general election in Bangladesh.

The discussion, moderated by Consul General Md Faruk Hossain, was attended by Bangladeshi expatriates living in Canada, including businesspeople, physicians, engineers, academics, journalists, and students.
