Jahangirnagar University has suspended a student for a year after foreign liquor was recovered from a room in the Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall.
An office order on Monday confirmed that 20 bottles of liquor were seized from Room No. 723 during a university administration raid on Sunday. 11 bottles were found in a locker on a table, and nine more were discovered under the bed.
Following a review of the investigation report, the university decided to suspend Fazle Azwad Sarkar. The administration said the disciplinary action was taken under Section (1)(c) of Jahangirnagar University’s Disciplinary Ordinance for Students-2018.
Azwad, a student of the 52nd batch in the Department of Political Science, was present in the room at the time of the raid. The university noted that he is a resident of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall and hails from Jamalpur.
Quoting the hall authorities, the report said, “Azwad had collected the liquor from near the borders of Jamalpur.”
