Seven people, including two children, have been killed in landslides in Bandarban’s Lama and Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria amid persistent heavy rain.
The incidents occurred on Wednesday night and Thursday morning in the two neighbouring Upazilas.
Lama Police chief Kaysar Hamid told bdnews24.com that five people from two families had died in separate landslides in the Aziznagar Union.
"The first incident occurred between 2am and 2:30am. Two people from a family were killed. Later, at 4am, another landslide buried three people from the same family."
Stating that their bodies had been recovered, Kaysar said: "There is no Teletalk network anywhere in Lama Upazila as the power has been out since last night. Due to this, there are problems with communication."
Meanwhile, two children have been killed in in a landslide in Chakaria.
Chakaria administrator (UNO) Shahin Delwar told bdnews24.com that the two children were killed in a landslide in the Moshniya Kata area of Baraitoli Union’s Ward No. 7.
