As in previous years, girls have once again outperformed boys in both the pass rate and GPA-5 achievements in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations.
Of the 1,235,661 students who sat for the 2025 HSC and equivalent exams, 624,215 were girls. Among them, 393,096 passed, representing a pass rate of 62.97 percent.
Out of 611,215 boys, 333,864 passed at a rate of 54.60 percent.
This year, a total of 69,097 students achieved a GPA of 5. Of them, 37,044 were girls and 32,053 were boys, meaning 4,991 more girls received the top grade than their male peers.
In the previous year, 80,933 girls and 64,978 boys secured a GPA-5, while in 2023, 49,365 girls and 43,230 boys obtained GPA-5 -- 6,135 more girls than boys.
The overall pass rate in HSC and equivalent examinations stood at 58.83 percent this year, with 69,097 students achieving GPA-5, marking the lowest pass rate in the past two decades.
The pass rate in 2024 was 77.78 percent, with a total of 145,911 students attaining a GPA-5.
