Bangladesh is currently a “promising destination” for investment, and necessary facilities have been ensured for foreign investors to repatriate their investments and profits to their home countries, says Khandakar Abdul Muktadir.

“Bangladesh has a stable and investment-friendly environment for international investors,” he said.

The commerce minister made the remarks during a meeting with Diana Mikėvičienė, Lithuania’s non-resident ambassador to Bangladesh, at the Secretariat on Sunday, according to a press release from the Ministry of Commerce.

The meeting discussed new opportunities for joint cooperation in information technology, cybersecurity and fintech, as well as ways to expand commercial ties between the two countries.

The commerce minister said that although the current volume of trade between Bangladesh and Lithuania is limited, there is significant scope for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

“In particular, Lithuanian technology companies can expand their operations in the South Asian market by leveraging Bangladesh’s rapidly developing ICT sector, skilled young workforce and the capabilities of freelancers,” he said.

Diana said Lithuania is one of the leading countries in the world in laser technology, GovTech and fintech services.

“Lithuania is interested in sharing its experience and providing technological cooperation to strengthen Bangladesh’s digital transformation, technological development and cybersecurity,” she said.

She further said that effective partnerships between the public and private sectors of the two countries could open new avenues in technology, innovation and investment.

The meeting emphasised the need for swift and effective measures to expand trade between Bangladesh and Lithuania, increase contacts between business communities, and undertake joint initiatives in technology-driven sectors.

Commerce Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan was also present at the meeting.
