Police recover dismembered parts of woman’s body in Dhaka

Police have recovered parts of unidentified young woman’s body in Dhaka's Sabujbagh.

The remains were found beneath a culvert beside the Madertek Baganbari Canal around 8am on Thursday, Sabujbagh Police Station chief Nur Alam Siddiqui said.

He said officers recovered the victim's head and two hands from a shopping bag found in a pile of rubbish beneath the culvert.

Police have yet to recover the rest of the body, but are continuing their search, he said.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been asked to assist with forensic examinations to establish the woman's identity.

The recovered remains will be sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for a postmortem exam.

Investigators suspect the woman was killed elsewhere before her body was dismembered and the remains dumped at the location.
