The government has sent 17 senior police officers, including the Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP) commissioner and officers of deputy inspector general (DIG) and additional DIG ranks, into compulsory retirement.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the orders on Sunday, saying that the move was taken in the "public interest" in accordance with Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018.

Among those affected is also a director of the National Security Intelligence (NSI).

Those placed on mandatory retirement include officers serving in the Anti-Terrorism Unit, Highway Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Tourist Police and Railway Police, the order added.
