The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested former Dhaka Metropolitan Police, or DMP, commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia in Dhaka's Mohakhali.
RAB’s legal and media wing confirmed the arrest in a message at 11:40pm on Wednesday.
Several media outlets published reports in May that Asaduzzaman had accumulated significant wealth.
The first report was published by The Daily Manab Zamin, followed by similar reports in other outlets highlighting his "vast assets."

In a report titled "Mia Saheb Er Joto Shompod," published on Jun 16, Manab Zamin wrote: "House after house, numerous plots, and several flats. There seems to be nothing that former police officer Asaduzzaman Mia does not possess. He has essentially accumulated a vast fortune, not only in his name but also in the names of his wife, two sons, and a daughter."
Citing reports from other media, Prothom Alo said, "The wife of this former senior police officer owns a house and two flats in Dhaka, while his daughter owns another flat. In addition, his wife and children possess 67 decimals of land in Dhaka, Gazipur, and Narayanganj. Across these three districts, his family members hold another 166 decimals of land."
Asaduzzaman served as the DMP commissioner from 2015 to 2019. Subsequently, the government appointed him as the chief executive officer of the National Security Cell. His contract expired in September 2022.
