Four members of a family, including a 3-year-old child, have suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out from a suspected gas line leak at their home in Dhaka’s Rayerbazar.

They were brought to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 5am on Monday, according to Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the facility.

The injured are Md Roman, 40, his wife Pinky, 35, their son Mayan, 3, and Pinky’s brother Apu, 22.

Dr Shawon says Roman has suffered burns on 25 percent of his body, Pinky on 75 percent, Mayan on 24 percent, Apu on 7 percent. All four are receiving treatment.

Neighbour Mamun, identified by a single name, who helped take them to hospital, said the family lives in a ground-floor flat of a six-storey building at house No. 147 in Rayarbazar.

The fire broke out around 3:45am, leaving all four occupants burnt. They were later rescued, rushed to the hospital, he added.

Roman hails from Netrokona.
