Police have confirmed the detention of Sarowar Alam, an assistant programmer at Bangabhaban, following allegations that he "hacked" the X account of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman.

On Tuesday night, a senior Dhaka Metropolitan Police official said that Sarowar was apprehended at Motijheel.

The Detective Branch carried out a raid at a government facility within the Rajarbagh Police Lines for the arrest.

Additional Commissioner (DB) Shafiqul Islam said, "We have brought him in. His mobile phone and laptop have been seized and are being examined."

Earlier, a Jamaat delegation visited Bangabhaban to lodge a formal complaint over the alleged breach.

Sirajul Islam, a member of Jamaat’s election management committee, said upon exiting Bangabhaban: "The Jamaat Ameer’s X account was hacked using an official Bangabhaban email address. We have lodged a complaint, and Bangabhaban has assured us of an investigation."
