DMP issues security guidelines for Friday’s Janmashtami procession

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has announced special security measures and traffic restrictions for Friday’s Janmashtami procession in the capital.

The procession will begin at Dhakeshwari National Temple at 3pm and end at Bahadur Shah Park at 7pm.

It will travel from the temple through Palashi Bazar, Jagannath Hall, Central Shaheed Minar, Doel Chattar, the High Court, Bangabazar, the Dhaka South City Corporation building, Golap Shah Mazar, Gulistan intersection, Nawabpur Road and Ray Saheb Bazar intersection before reaching Bahadur Shah Park.

Police have asked people not to park vehicles along the procession route and advised motorists to use alternative roads.

For security reasons, participants have been asked not to carry handbags, trolleys, large vanity bags, bundles, flammable substances, knives, weapons, scissors, corrosive liquids, blades, matches, gas lighters or other potentially dangerous items.

Under the DMP guidelines, anyone wishing to take part must join the procession at its starting point and will not be allowed to enter midway.

Participants have also been asked not to unnecessarily block the road or otherwise obstruct the procession, or throw fruit or other objects along the route.

The DMP has urged people to immediately alert police if they notice any suspicious person or object.

Police have sought everyone’s cooperation to ensure Janmashtami is celebrated in a festive atmosphere with due religious solemnity.
