A student of Khulna University has been fatally shot by unidentified assailants on motorcycles.
According to police, the incident took place in Khulna City’s Tentultala intersection around 9pm on Friday.
The victim, Arnab Kumar Sarkar, 26, was a master’s student in the university's Business Administration department. He was the son of Nitish Chandra Sarkar, a resident of Abu Ahmed Road located in the city's Sonadanga area.
Shafiqul Islam, chief of Sonadanga Police Station, said: “Arnab was drinking tea while leaning on his motorcycle in front of a tea shop at the Tentultala intersection when several assailants on motorcycles opened fire and fled the scene.”
According to Shafiqul, the bullet pierced through Arnab’s head.
“Locals quickly rushed to his aid and transported him to City Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors,” he added.
Md Moniruzzaman, deputy commissioner of Khulna City Police (southern division), stated: “A student was shot dead by terrorists. An investigation is under way to determine the motive behind his killing.”
He also confirmed that police have initiated an operation to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
