A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Meghna Group Chairman Mostafa Kamal in connection to allegations of irregularities and corruption at Shuchona Foundation, an organisation chaired by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Wazed Putul.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Tuesday, said Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) spokesperson Akhtarul Islam.

The anti-graft agency’s Deputy Director Md Monirul Islam submitted the petition in the court seeking a travel ban on the Meghna Group and Ekattor Media Limited chairman.

According to the petition, Putul and others allegedly embezzled funds of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds through “irregularities and corruption”.

An investigation is under way against Sajeeb Wazed Joy, a trustee of the Centre for Research and Information (CRI), and other members of Hasina’s family for allegedly misappropriating state funds to serve their political agenda, it added

Citing “reliable sources”, it said Mostafa could flee the country with his family and disrupt the investigation, so it is necessary to stop him from travelling abroad.
