A Man returned from Malaysia, Masudur Rahman, will be interrogated in police custody for two days over suspected ties to extremist groups.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana approved the remand petition on Thursday following a police request.
SI Aminul Islam of Airport Police presented Masudur before the court, citing Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and sought seven days to question him.
Police said Masudur had been detained in Malaysia for posting videos linked to Hamas, Taliban, and Al-Qaeda on Facebook.
Malaysian authorities later repatriated him, handing him over to immigration at Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday, police added.
Masudur admitted during interrogation that he had shared such extremist content while in Malaysia.
The police application said the suspect indicated that terror attacks could occur at any time in Bangladesh and elsewhere.
“Preliminary evidence linked him to criminal activity abroad, leading Malaysian police to detain him. Following conviction there, he was returned to Bangladesh,” it added.
Police requested the remand to determine whether Masudur:
• is affiliated with any banned organisation in Bangladesh,
• has used electronic devices to conduct prohibited activities,
• is connected to terror financing, and
• has ties to international extremist networks.
Prosecutor Harun Ur Rashid supported the remand. Masudur appeared without legal representation.
