Bangladesh issues cautionary signal No. 3 for seaports as squally weather looms

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has advised the country’s four seaports to keep Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 hoisted as a low-pressure area raises the prospect of squally weather along the coast.

The Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports were placed under the warning in a bulletin issued on Monday.

The Met Office said the low over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas had moved northwestwards and was now lying over Gangetic West Bengal, adjoining northern Odisha and the northwestern Bay.

Under its influence, squally weather may sweep over the seaports, the northern Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

Meteorologist Md Omar Faruk said coastal areas could see some rain, while the chances of rainfall elsewhere in the country remained low.

He also advised people in affected areas to heed the weather warning.
