Jubo League leader Al Amin Saikat has been killed after he was hacked in an attack in Kishoreganj’s Bhairab.
The attack occurred in front of Gopal Ziur Temple in Bhairab’s Tinpatti area around midnight on Sunday.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was later declared dead around 3am on Monday.
The 40-year-old Saikat was the general secretary of the Kishoreganj Municipality unit of the Jubo League and a former councillor of the municipality.
The deceased’s brother-in-law Baki Billah said Saikat had been in front of the temple around midnight when four to five unidentified men attacked him unprovoked. They hacked at him with sharp weapons and injured him critically.
Saikat was first taken to a local hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 3am.
Inspector Md Faruk, chief of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, said that the body has been kept at the hospital’s morgue for a postmortem. The relevant police station has been informed of the incident.
