Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has returned home from the US after a nine-day visit.
He landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on an Emirates Airlines flight at 9am on Thursday, the Chief Advisor's Office said.
Yunus arrived in New York on Sept 23 to attend the 80th session of the General Assembly and other high-level meetings.
This year, the chief advisor's entourage included six politicians. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Acting Chairman's Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhter Hossen, NCP Joint Convener Tasnim Jara joined the delegation from Dhaka. Jamaat leader Naqibur Rahman Tarek also joined the delegation from the United States.
On Sept 26, Yunus addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. In his speech at the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations Headquarters, the chief adviser highlighted the reform initiatives undertaken by the interim government, the aspirations of the 2024 July Uprising, the commitment to hold free and fair elections in February 2026, the trials of the massacres during the July Uprising, and the Rohingya crisis.
The chief advisor also addressed the opening session of the high-level Conference on the “Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar” at the UN Headquarters on Tuesday. He reiterated that the only peaceful solution to the Rohingya crisis is their safe and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar and put forward seven proposals to achieve it.
Yunus also met with Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and Queen Mathilde of Belgium on the sidelines of the UNGA, and with US President Donald Trump and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at a reception organised in honour of world leaders.
In addition, the chief advisor had meetings with Albanian President Bajram Begaj, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko, Finnish President Alexander Stubbs, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over the past few days.
Former British prime minister Gordon Brown, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, World Bank President Ajay Banga, World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, Club de Madrid President and former Slovenian president Danilo Turk, and US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and Ambassador-designate to India Sergio Gore met with the chief advisor on the sidelines of the session.
Yunus also received the “Unlock Big Change Award” at the Theirworld’s annual high-level Global Education Dinner in New York.
In addition, the chief advisor also attended several high-level conferences and meetings.
