A mother and son have died after being run over by a train in Gazipur’s Tongi.

Citing family members, Tongi Railway Police Outpost chief Sub-Inspector (SI) Rahima Akhter said a Dhaka-bound Subarna Express ran them over on Saturday after leaving Chattogram.

The dead are Jannat, 35, and her son Junaid, 2, both identified with single names. The woman lived with her husband near Teesta Gate.

Jannat’s grandfather Delwar Hossain said she had a fight with her husband on Friday night and left the house with Junaid on Saturday morning.

Later, she committed suicide by jumping under a train, he alleged.

SI Rahima said the bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for postmortem, and a case of accidental death will be filed at Kamalapur Railway Police Station.
